U.S. Army Chemical Corps dismounted reconnaissance
and surveillance platoons grouped together. It retains a
number of Multipurpose Decontamination Systems for the
decontamination of supporting assets.
● No. 2623 Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force Regiment.
No. 2623 Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force Regiment
is equivalent to an Air National Guard unit. It provides
reinforcements to No. 26 and No. 27 Squadrons.
● A specialist training unit. No. 20 Wing Regiment currently
conducts its own, in-house training; however, this training
will become the responsibility of the Defence CBRN Centre
in the future.
In addition to providing the specialized CBRN capabilities
of a force deployed by the U. K., No. 20 Wing also provides elements of the U.K. Technical Response Force, which supports
chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high-yield explosives (CBRNE) counterterrorist capabilities for homeland
defense.
The Way Ahead
At the core of the RAF FP capability is the RAF Regiment;
it "fghts on the ground for control of the air." All RAF
Regiment personnel are trained as infantry soldiers before their
FP skills are further developed. Because CBRN defense is a
core element of the broader FP mission, the RAF Regiment
possesses more CBRN defense-trained and -experienced
personnel than any equivalent U.K. military unit. The RAF
Regiment is committed to delivering specialized CBRN
capabilities to U.K. defense assets and coalition and partner
nations alongside its core air FP mission. The RAF Regiment
acknowledges the far greater size, capability, and CBRN career
focus of the U.S. Army Chemical Corps and looks forward to
forging links and further developing professional relationships
and friendships with the Chemical Corps.
